2014 Santa Cruz Mountains Chardonnay

Chard_2014_whiteback2

A beautiful golden color, this wine is lean with bright acidity.  Lemon curd, toasted almonds and matchstick notes characterize this chardonnay. These grapes from the R Bar R Ranch come from a very cold spot on the Pacific Ocean side of the Santa Cruz Mountains at an elevation of 1200 ft, near Hecker Pass.

93 pts Doug Wilder, Purely Domestic Wine Report, Volume 5.3

“The nose is a lively rich grain, lemon oil, caramel and chamomile. The palate is a delicate lemon on entry with a lean mineral and pear core with balanced toast, acidity and caramel notes.”

89 pts Wine Enthusiast

“Rich aromas of thick, chewy Meyer lemon pith, lightly toasted sourdough bread, toasted almonds, struck match and the slightest hint of browned butter. The palate is intriguingly tart, oily in texture and quite powerful, with cooked lemon rinds, lemon creme brûlée and marcona almond oil flavors.”
